Jaime Jackett
Choir master
Jaime Jackett is our choir master for the 'Bush Beez’, our first I Have a Voice Orphans Choir for Aboriginal youth in Broome, Western Australia. She has been working with us since August 2021 and has included an interesting start with the challenges that were faced by Covid.
She sees IHAVOC as a fantastic opportunity to share the joy of singing and self-expression with people in the community who don't often have the ability to attend singing classes due to financial constraints.
Working as a professional singer and musician both as a solo artist and as a part of an international collaboration called Belle Miners, Jaime has honed her craft.
The Belle Miners sing in three-part harmony, and harmonies are her favourite thing! She works as a vocal coach teaching contemporary and popular styles to her private singing lessons and choirs.

Jaime loves making connections in her community and empowering people through the magic of the voice and sharing song. She has really appreciated being able to learn from the ladies in the community who she is mentoring to become choir masters in their own right.
The whole project has been empowering for everyone involved, Jaime teaches singing and is privileged to learn more about Indigenous Culture and Language in return.
“As a coach I believe it is my job to help students to find and develop their own voice, and at its core, singing is an innate part of humanity. I believe that everyone can sing and that everyone can use their voice as a means of expression and communication. Singing is not only for the gifted or those who strive for a career in the arts. It is for everyone.
”
After a good session with the choir, she feels incredible! She has been blown away by the appreciation expressed by the kids in the choir as well as the ladies who help to organise the children. The greatest sense of achievement comes when she hears that the mentor choir masters have been taking exercises and songs home and are singing with the kids outside of class.
“I am excited to continue to grow IHAVOC Bush Beez in Broome and I would love to see it expand to other communities in the Kimberley region.”
